These steps are for pans with an uncoated aluminium base, such as non-induction XD+ and HD pans. Induction pans have a different base.
- Avoid the dishwasher. Dishwasher detergents can dull and discolour an aluminium base.
- Remove food residue. Aluminium can scratch, so don't use abrasive scouring pads. Use a paste of baking soda and water, or Bar Keepers Friend®, with a non-abrasive pad or brush.
- Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Sprinkle baking soda on the base, pour on a little hydrogen peroxide, add more baking soda and leave it to sit before scrubbing gently.
- Grey discolouration. Mix 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts hot water. Soak the base for 15 minutes, scrub gently and repeat as needed. For heavier discolouration, use cream of tartar or lemon juice in water.
- Rinse. Wash with dish soap and rinse well to remove any residue.
